Piece Together
Piece Together is a visual exploration of resilience, identity, and interconnectedness. The fragmented geometric forms that shape the bison reflect the many facets of personal and collective growth-like pieces of a broken mirror, each shard tells a part of the story, yet together, they create a whole. Within the bison, a mirrored reflection emerges, symbolizing the life and spirit that exists within the form, a reminder that even in fragmentation, there is strength, evolution, and continuity.
Perched on the bison’s back is a brown cowbird, a species known for its symbiotic relationship with the bison, often seen plucking insects from its fur. This small yet significant presence highlights the deep interconnectedness of ecosystems just as the bison’s movement across the plains shapes the land, creating breeding pools and nesting grounds, the cowbird thrives in its presence. This relationship mirrors the way communities grow through mutual support, reinforcing the idea that no journey of resilience is taken alone. Just as the bison marches forward, this sculpture embodies perseverance, transformation, and the unseen forces that shape both nature and human experience.

Maple Leaf Construction is proud to support TOBA Centre’s Bison on the Boulevard—a meaningful initiative raising awareness and funds for children and youth affected by abuse. We truly believe in giving back to our community and helping those who need it most. This initiative is a beautiful way to bring our community together through artful expressions and educate us all on the important role we play in helping these children heal. The bison is a symbol of strength and resilience, as are the young survivors of our community. Every child’s future matters, and every child deserves to be safe, cared for and protected. We are honoured to stand alongside TOBA Centre and help pave the way towards healing, and a safer, more hopeful future for Manitoba’s children.”

Cows run away from the storm while the buffalo charges toward it – and gets through it quicker. Whenever I’m confronted with a tough challenge, I do not prolong the torment, I become the buffalo.
