Only Through Love
The bison is wrapped in deep space with bursts of colourful light where nebulas appear. Nebulas are significant cosmic structures that play a crucial role in the birth of stars, as well as the formation of new planetary systems.
The space in which new stars are forming, where growth and development begin. This felt so appropriate, the shift in light, a space held for creation and growth where there can be a release, and some dust may have settled but also there is light forming and growing. Healing is not linear and there isn’t always a definite end point. Having a community and support system aids in the dust settling and the light being rebuilt as it hasn’t gone out but may need care and love to burn brighter. The children embracing one another and literally holding space while they look out unto their world, the world they can create, I wanted this to represent hope, strength, a world where children feel seen, heard, loved, valued, and respected.
I feel immensely grateful and blessed to have had the opportunity to spend time with some of the staff members and volunteers (family members and friends) of the Toba Center during the creative process of Bison on the Boulevard. Such immensely thoughtful, supportive and caring people who wholeheartedly do all that they do through love.
“For small creatures such as we, the vastness is bearable only through love.” — Carl Sagan

Cows run away from the storm while the buffalo charges toward it – and gets through it quicker. Whenever I’m confronted with a tough challenge, I do not prolong the torment, I become the buffalo.
