Sincere Protection
On one side of the bison, two prowling coyotes can be seen. The gaze of the left coyote is directed to the other side of the bison where a territorial Ruffed Grouse stands. Grouse are seen as symbols of protection, bravery, and boundaries. In this design, the grouse is puffing itself up to distract the coyotes from its defenseless chicks. Together the coyotes embody the ever-present lurking danger. The adult grouse represents the deeply protective role of caregivers and the community. The chicks, of course, represent the vulnerable position of youth.
The background/base colour of the bison is a deep indigo, which implies sincerity and integrity. A fitting colour to reflect the values of the Toba Centre.

At Canada Life, our customers across Canada trust us to provide for their financial security needs and to deliver on the promises we make.
These promises extend to our communities as well. Canada Life works to lift communities, helping them reach their potential and build a better tomorrow. We collaborate with forward-thinking organizations—so together our efforts drive positive social impact and shape resilient communities.
This is why Canada Life is proud to support Toba Centre for Children & Youth’s Bison on the Boulevard. As Manitoba’s only child advocacy centre, Toba Centre is dedicated to helping, healing, and protecting children affected by violence.
Just as bison symbolize strength and resilience—standing together to protect their young—we are proud to stand with Toba Centre to restore health and healing to children and youth in Manitoba.”

Cows run away from the storm while the buffalo charges toward it – and gets through it quicker. Whenever I’m confronted with a tough challenge, I do not prolong the torment, I become the buffalo.
