Wild Prairie
Looking beyond the massive form of the bison itself, I invite viewers into the expansive native grasslands of Manitoba where Plains Bison once roamed freely. The scene wraps the entire form of Canada’s largest and most symbolic mammal, while showcasing the beautiful prairie expanse blanketed under a dramatic sunset. Wisps of ribbony grasses delicately sway into the depths of the horizon. In the foreground, several birds perched on branches view an environment that is reminiscent of the Plains Bison ancestral habitat.
The birds represent the children, perched on stems that symbolize the support and healing provided by Toba Centre. As the sun rises, they look towards a promising new day in a world the way it should be—a safe place that honours the spirit, the heart and the home.
Everything is connected, as together through art, we are all healed.

The Winnipeg Kinsmen have always believed in the strength of community and what we can achieve when we come together. In a perfect world, the services of Toba Centre wouldn’t be necessary—but sadly, they are. It’s vital that we support this cause and raise awareness of the incredible work Toba Centre does for children and families impacted by abuse.
Bison on the Boulevard is a beautiful and creative way to share that message. Children are our future, and those who have suffered deserve even more support, safety, and compassion. Toba Centre is there to offer just that.
As Kinsmen, we know that organizations like Toba Centre are essential in building stronger, safer communities. We’re proud to stand behind this initiative and everything it represents—hope, healing, and the power of a united community.”
AT THE HEART OF THE STORM, YOU’LL FIND

A place to be heard, helped, & healed
For children and youth who have experienced abuse, Toba Centre provides wraparound support. Our team of professionals from law enforcement, child protection, medical, mental health, and other support services work together from one location to help young people and their families throughout their healing journey.

Cows run away from the storm while the buffalo charges toward it – and gets through it quicker. Whenever I’m confronted with a tough challenge, I do not prolong the torment, I become the buffalo.
