4,000 Children, Each and Every One Deserves to be Heard: Toba Centre Urges Manitobans to Take Action During Child Abuse Awareness Month

With more than 4,000 cases investigated annually in Manitoba, Toba Centre is calling on the public to recognize, respond, and stand with survivors.

Winnipeg, Manitoba: In recognition of Child Abuse Awareness Month, Toba Centre for Children & Youth (Toba Centre) is raising awareness about child abuse and the crucial role communities play in prevention, responding when a child is in need, and bringing hope and healing to those impacted by child abuse.

Every year in Manitoba, approximately 4,000 cases of child abuse are investigated, with many more going unreported. Without proper support for children and families, impacts of child abuse can be devastating and lifelong. With your support, the team at Toba Centre – police, medical, child protection, mental health, and Toba Centre staff – works collaboratively in a child-focused environment, allowing kids to feel safe to tell their story and begin their path to healing.

“Child abuse impacts every community, every culture, every income bracket—it does not discriminate,” said Christy Dzikowicz, Executive Director of Toba Centre. “When children find safety, when they are believed, and when they are supported through their healing journey, their resilience is remarkable. This is a community effort and together, we can build a bright future for children and youth impacted by abuse.”
