New Board Brings Community Perspective to Toba Centre for Children & Youth

September 2020 brought a fresh perspective to the Toba Centre for Children & Youth with the introduction of a new board. The board consists of community members from various backgrounds and experience.

“While we are grateful to our previous board, composed of stakeholder representatives, for the incredible amount of work they did to get the centre to where it is today,” says Christy Dzikowicz, Executive Director of Toba Centre for Children & Youth “transitioning to a community board was the long-term vision for our centre. In order for us to grow into the community-based organization that we want to be, we need to be governed by a group of community members.”

The new board consists of Don Smith (Chair), Chris Throne (Treasurer), Lori Duncan (Secretary), Aaron DeGroot, John Douglas, and Sheila North.

“It’s exciting to see community members step forward,” says Dzikowicz. “Community involvement at the board level will facilitate community ownership and leadership of our centre.  Along with their commitment and passion to helping children and families impacted by abuse, these board members have professional backgrounds that will assist us in achieving growth and sustainability as we transform Toba Centre into a true child advocacy centre.”
